Winona Ryder, professionally Winona Ryder, was born on Winona Minnesota. The parents of Winona Ryder gave her the name of the town she grew up in. Michel Horowitz is her father as well as Cynthia Palmer is her mother. Ryder believes she is Jewish has a connection to Ryder's Jewish father. The actress also has a half-sister, Sunyata Jubal. Her younger brother is Uria. Ryder relocated together with her family to Mendocino County California at the age of seven. There was no electricity. Ryder was a prolific reader because of the lack of television. Ryder started taking classes in acting in the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983 at the age of 12 years old. Lucas, a 1986 film which was her first big character. Ryder was just fifteen when she landed the role. Ryder was bullied in high school. Ryder was hopeful that her work as an actress would make a difference. However, that didn't happen. But she continued to pursue her dream. In 1988, she received her big break in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder was a star in several films. In 1993, she was awarded an Academy Awards for The Age of Innocence.
